Creative problem solving, or,
What can happen when you think outside the box–the hair dye box, that is.
I’ve been coloring my hair for a number of years. Once in a blue moon I’ll get to the salon when I want every little gray strand on my head completely covered with color. Most of the time, however, I color it myself. And through trial and error I’ve finally been able to select a brand that meets all my criteria: no ammonia; no bad after-smell; looks shiny and healthy.
But, and isn’t there always a big but?!, whichever route I go, in the long run coloring my hair has always taken a big chunk out of my pocket book especially since it grows fast and is coarse, and therefore, does not hold onto color well or for longer than a week-and-a-half before needing a touch-up at my roots and sideburns.
Now, the bottles of dye, including the root touch-ups that are marketed to women that I’ve seen are a one-application product. That means there’s still a lot of waste in product and money. In fact, these touch-up bottles often cost the same as the regular bottle of dye, if not more.
There are a couple alternatives I’ve considered and quickly discounted, like letting my hair grow out to it’s natural color (Hmm, white-salt’n’pepper…No! I can’t quite do this, yet!) or even having some sort of highlights put in to camouflage the gray more (Yikes! Will this change my look too drastically?). In addition, as a person that tends to obsess and also happens to be an entertainer, I’m wrought with a bit of second guessing as to what is preferrable, both to me and the clients & prospects. I’ve spent many hours debating all of the ‘why’s’ and ‘why not’s’ of coloring my hair…
Until, thank heaven’s!!!, I found a product that has been an answer to my hair coloring touch-up dilemma. Perhaps you can see now where I am going here (if the pic above hasn’t been a big enough clue already)!
This year while looking for my preferred hair coloring brand at the drug store, I simply walked down the aisle a little further and found, bought, and tried a hair color for MEN!!! that meets my criteria for touch-up color: it has multiple applications, is less expensive and looks great.
The product? Just for Men–Mustache & Beard Brush-In Color Gel!!
I love this and am absolutely thrilled that by simply stretching my product-worldview and taking a few steps in a different direction, I was able to solve a little problem.
