Do you perform in professional industry showcases?
I have begun showcasing in recent years in an effort to let potential hiring clients see me, experience my program and to ask me questions. For my various services, the brochure or even website hasn’t ever been enough. One event I participated in back in the Fall of ’09, I’m still getting bookings from.
At first, I couldn’t help but be intimidated. Afterall, there are usually dozens of other industry pros showcasing their talents, as well. However, having a specific niche helps and even if you don’t, to just remember to be yourself would be the main tip I would take to heart.
There are two showcases coming up that I will be participating in:
1) Need an engaging speaker for your corporate event?
Visit the Chicago Speaker Showcase, Thursday April 28 at the Metropolitan Club (in the Willis Tower) https://bit.ly/SpkrShowcase
One dozen professional speakers will be showcasing their various specialties including topics such as finance, networking, humor, web marketing and cross-generational communication. Sponsored by The National Speakers Association – Illinois Chapter, Chicago Area Convention Bureau Satellite Offices (CACBSO) and The Metropolitan Club.
2) Need entertainers, educators & programmers for your library or school? Visit the Premiere Showcase, Tuesday September 13 at the Carlisle Banquets, Lombard

If you perform for a living, whether as an entertainer or speaker, I would highly suggest the experience of a showcase–it opens you up to others in your industry and it lets potential clients see what you’ve got. Not only that, but they are a lot of fun.
And comparing performer war stories is always a joy. Like that time I arrived at the venue to discover I hadn’t packed my costume top…but that’s another story!
